  • 2023 Hugh Durham National coach of the Year Award – awarded annually to the most outstanding mid-major men’s college basketball head coach in NCAA Division I competition

  • In the first season that Coach Abdur-Rahim has players that were both recruited by him and went through a full spring practice season, KSU has knocked down more than five school records and has improved its overall record to .423, improving from records of .208 and .035 the two previous seasons (As of 02/16/22) 

  • Abdur-Rahim was one of a select group named among ESPN’s top 40 Under 40 college basketball coaches (5/14/20)

  • Abdur-Rahim joined collegiate basketball coaches from across the country in pursuit of pushing their campuses and their communities towards a brighter future as one of over 40 coaches in the founding committee for Coaches 4 Change 

  • The Owls were on National TV three times in 2021-22 (FS1, ACC Network & ESPNU) 

  • 8 out of 15 KSU student-athletes were named to the 2019-20 ASUN Academic Honor Roll and 12 out of 16 were named to the 2020-21 ASUN Academic Honor Roll. Under Abdur-Rahim’s guidance, the percentage of athletes named to the Honor Roll increased from 53% to 75% between the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons

  • KSU ranks third in the ASUN Conference in points per game (74.8 ppg), improving from their last place ranking during the 2020-21 season. The Owls’ 196 steals on the season ranks second in the conference (As of 02/18/22)

  • Coached KSU to a school-record 82.8% on 2-point shots during the team’s win over Central Arkansas (2/9/22)

  • In the Owls win on the road vs Bellarmine (2/5/22), KSU reached 10 wins for the first time since 2018

  • Coached the team to a triple-overtime battle against Eastern Kentucky (2/3/22), the first triple-overtime game for KSU since 2013 and the first overtime game since 2018

  • In January (1/18/22), KSU ranked first in the ASUN in conference games in scoring defense (54.0 ppg) and FG% defense (29.6%)

  • With a win over North Florida (1/17/22), KSU became 3-0 in conference play for the first time ever and had back-to-back road ASUN wins for the first time in 11 years

  • The Owls won their ASUN opener for the first time in six years with a 77-53 win over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, tied for second-largest win in an ASUN game in team history (1/13/22)

  • KSU set a new record for most assists in a game with 30 during their win over Toccoa Falls (1/5/22) and also set a new school record for best FG% (62.7). The previous school record for FG% (62.3) was also set under Abdur-Rahim’s leadership in November of 2021

  • The Owls set a school record for largest win margin ever over a D1 school in their 89-52 win over Charleston Southern (11/28/21), under Abdur-Rahim’s guidance 

  • KSU set three school records against Carver Bible (11/15/21), including most points ever scored in its Division I history (117), field goal percentage (62.3%) and 48 total field goals. The previous record for most points in a game was set the year prior with Abdur-Rahim at the helm (106). With 60 first-half points against Carver Bible, KSU reached the most first-half points scored since 2016. 

  • KSU held Creighton to the fewest points at home in five years (51) on 11/12/21

  • Brought in standout freshmen Terrell Burden and Armani Harris who made an immediate impact during the 2019-20 campaign. 

  • Ahead of the 2020-21 season, Abdur-Rahim put together one of the top recruiting classes in KSU history, ranked first in the ASUN and 61st in the country 

  • Coached guard Chris Youngblood to ASUN All-Freshman Team honors for the 2020-21 season, the sixth overall Owl to ever claim the award
